MICHAEL BRINGING HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS AND HEAVY RAINFALL TO WESTERN CUBA… …STORM SURGE AND HURRICANE WARNINGS ISSUED FOR THE NORTHEASTERN GULF COAST…

Hurricane Watch continues for Southwest Georgia, Tropical Storm Watch elsewhere in South Georgia.

life-threatening storm surge inundation is expected along
portions of the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend/Nature Coast, and the
storm surge watch has been upgraded to a storm surge warning for
parts of this area.

Michael is forecast to be close to a Category 3 storm before it makes landfall somewhere on the Florida panhandle or Big Bend area late Wednesday. Could easily be strongest storm in that area since Opal in 1995.

As always flooding from rain and storm surge are the greatest danger to the most people and the wind damage near the eye of the storm will be destructive. Isolated tornadoes possible along and to the right of the storm’s track. Notice Atlanta is in the cone of uncertainty.

Atlanta as of now at least, is expected to be on the weaker left side of the storm, we get some wind gusts to 30-35 mph and an inch or more rain Wednesday into Thursday, followed by a refreshing taste of autumn at long last, just in time for the weekend, highs in the low to middle 70s and lows in the low to mid 50s with low humidity lasting through next week.
